You’ve read our 8 tips for creating your perfect CV but are you missing out on landing an interview by not paying enough attention to your cover letter?
When employers have to sift through numerous CVs, your cover letter is a great way to highlight the key reasons why you’re perfect for the perfect candidate, read our top tips below.
Demonstrate your skills
Think about the audience, what are they looking for from you?
Most job roles will have a list of key responsibilities so pick out the top 3 – 5 qualities that the employer is seeking and briefly provide examples of where you can demonstrate knowledge in that area and why you are a good match for this role.
Keep it short and sweet
Obviously, you’re looking for the right role and company for you, but your cover letter and CV should ideally focus on what you have to offer the company.
Your cover letter should have an impact and should summarise your experience and knowledge in a nutshell specific to the role you’re applying for. Ideally, your cover letter should be no more than one A4 size document.
Don’t re-write your CV
Remember the objective of your cover letter is to make the hiring manager want to read your CV. You only need to provide a few edited highlights of your work experience in a brief and snappy summary.
