Approximately two billion Muslims from all walks of life observe the blessed month of Ramadhan - a month which is undoubtedly the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Ramadhan is a special time where we think of the poor, reflect on our actions and behaviour, increase in generosity and kindness, increase acts of worship and share the love and unity in the community.
Benefits of fasting:
Ramadhan is not difficult at all if we have the right attitude to observe fasting. Fasting carries loads of medical benefits: it reduces blood sugar levels and blood pressure, gives organs a rest, and reduces fat and cholesterol. Furthermore, it cleanses the body and gives the digestive system a rest, with white blood cells becoming more active. The organs also start to repair naturally.
After a few days, the body adjusts to fasting; energy levels increase, your mind can concentrate better, and the feeling of wellness takes over. The healing process works more efficiently, and the body repairs the damaged cells. This leads to the body becoming more energetic and you will experience improved memory and concentration, helping the body to function at maximum capacity. The spiritual benefits of fasting are far greater. With these mentioned, it is important you eat correctly and healthy.
That said, fasting during studies, revision and exams can be a challenge. However, this must be approached in a positive way for you to get the most of your studies and fasting. Here are a few tips on how to study during Ramadan:
One of the key things is to organise yourself and make a timetable of what you are going to do and when. Follow your local timings for when you can start and stop eating and make a schedule that fits in with prayers. Different people have different ways of revising, so figure out what works for you.
Choose interactive learning
Thanks to the power of the internet, you can now indulge in interactive learning. Ensure you learn all the essential bits of information, have discussions with classmates, arrange a meeting with your teachers for advice and guidance, and most importantly that you have adequate rest.
Early morning revision:
The best time to revise is in the morning as the mind is fresh. Take regular breaks and revise in small sessions.
If you are not sitting exams during Ramadhan, then it is business as usual. Attend the lectures and seminars, do the work that is required as you have been doing before, and balance your studies with other activities, such as fundraising for charity.
With Ramadhan being such a blessed month, Dua (supplication) will be accepted, so take advantage by putting in efforts and praying for great results in your exams.
