Find out what's happening near you in Manchester this October, from food festivals through to theatre.

Summer may be long gone, but that doesn’t mean you should resign yourself to sitting in the house wishing you could rewind time and have the last few months back!

Manchester has lots going on this October – here are just five things to see and do in the city over the next few weeks.

Indulge yourself at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Manchester Food and Drink Festival is on right now and running until 9th October – that means you still have time to grab one (or more!) of the amazing deals the festival offers.

The Bookatable Festival Feasts are available at a wide selection of restaurants around the city for discount prices – think a 5-course dinner for £25! The festival also brings a programme of events, including the Just Eat Street Kitchen and Mad Cocktail Week. You can find out more here.

Witness a theatrical masterpiece at The Lowry

Based on Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel, The Kite Runner is coming to The Lowry for five days only, and we think everyone should catch it while they can! The show follows two childhood friends, torn apart by war in Afghanistan, and the fact that the show received a West End extension due to popular demand speaks volumes.

The Kite Runner is being performed at The Lowry from 3rd to 7th October, and you can pick up tickets from the theatre website for as little as £16.

Explore the Makers Market

The Makers Market makes an appearance in Manchester twice a month, and if you haven’t already checked them out, you should! This month, the Makers Market will make an appearance in Northern Quarter on 8th, reappearing on the Lowry Outlet Mall piazza on 28th and 29th.

From the finest selection of local food and drink, through to handmade arts, crafts and trinkets, you may be able to pick up some Christmas gifts early and avoid the festive rush (which can never be a bad thing). If you’re into creative arts yourself, the Makers Market is a great place to meet likeminded people – you may even find an opportunity to collaborate…

Experience the Manchester Literature Festival

Running from 6th to 22nd of October, this year’s Manchester Literature Festival has a great line-up of events for anyone of any age who loves to read. Kicking off with An Evening with Sarah Millican, all the events are reasonably priced and easily accessible.

From poetry prizes and conversation sessions with popular authors, to walking tours and a comedy club for kids, the Manchester Literature Festival caters for all. You can find the full list of events and book tickets here.

Rock out at Neighbourhood Festival

Neighbourhood Festival is back and this year’s line-up provides an eclectic mix of musical performances set to take place across several different city locations on 7th October. Headlining the festival are indie rock quarter Peace and hip-hop/indie rocker, Rat Boy.

Festival venues include The Albert Hall, The O2 Ritz, Deaf Institute and XOLO. Tickets will set you back around £30, and can be bought from Ticketmaster and other leading ticketing websites.
