Help fight online criminals with a cybersecurity degree

NEW cybersecurity degrees have been launched to help fight hackers and online criminals as demand for skilled specialists grows.

With billions of pounds being lost to the economy through cybercrime, Arden University has been working with industry experts to develop four new IT postgraduate degrees to give graduates skills to fill vacancies in high-demand sectors such as strategic IT management, telecoms and cybersecurity.

The launch of the courses comes as the UK government has recognised the need to improve national cybersecurity, with chancellor Phillip Hammond pledging to spend £1.9bn to upgrade resilience. At the same time, cybersecurity vacancies have grown by 73% in the last year alone1.

Dr Ben Silverstone, who leads the Postgraduate Computing programmes at Arden University, said:

"Cybersecurity is more important than ever and there is growing, lucrative, demand for graduates with specialist skills. We designed these new postgraduate degrees with employability in mind - with the demand for highly qualified IT professionals growing at such a rapid pace, we want to equip our graduates with the skills to fill vacancies in key sectors in the IT field, such as cybersecurity."

The MSc Security Management degrees teaches the management and deployment of IT security, including infrastructure, policy making, governance and compliance.

IT systems and business strategy alignment are covered in the MSc Strategic Information Management course, while the MSc Enterprise Architecture Management degree focuses on the design and deployment of IT infrastructure and systems to support business objectives.

The MSc Telecommunications Management looks at skills needed to develop business improvement opportunities, and manage the design and implementation of network solutions.
