August Bank Holiday is here! Another bank holiday where we’re treated to a whole three days off. If lying in bed watching box sets is your plan, check out our list of Top 7 films every aspiring Psychologist should watch. But if you’re lucky enough to be in the capital this weekend, forget about being a sofa sloth - we’ve got your long weekend plans sorted!
Europe’s biggest street festival representing London’s multicultural past and present, will take over Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park on Sunday 28 August. Celebrating the capital's Caribbean communities, hear Live music (from reggae to dub to salsa) and sample culinary delights like jerk chicken and fried plantain.
Following the Olympics, where athletes were showing their physical strength (psssst… Read what they have to say about striving for gold in competition and in life), you now have the opportunity to compete for a medal that involves mind rather than physical strength.
This annual festival of the mind will feature tournaments in more than 60 board games. Classics such as chess, draughts, Scrabble and Monopoly all feature alongside more recent hits such as Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne. A treat if you are into Psychology!
The Southbank Centre is feeling the love this summer with the return of their Festival of Love. Celebrate humankind’s most overwhelming emotion through range of activities. On Saturday, August 27 look out for the Big Wedding Weekend, which will involve a number of mass ceremonies in which couples wed, renew their vows or convert their civil partnership into marriage.
They say travelling broadens the mind – but you can explore the world without getting on the plane at this free exhibition of the Travel Photographer of the Year 2015 in Greenwich. Explore the back streets of Chinese villages and come face-to-face with a curious pelican through these awe-inspiring images.
Head here for a bank holiday bash complete with beach huts and summertime drinks and dishes. The seaside inspired sand haven will be treating guests to afro beats, dancehall and basement sounds. What a great end to the summer!
