Are you spending Christmas in the capital? Here are five fantastic things you could be doing.

Looking for something to boost your festive spirit? Here are five of the best things you can do in the capital city this Christmas.

Explore one of the many markets

If you’ve ever spent any time in London in the build-up to Christmas, it’s likely that you’ve paid a visit to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. But did you know, there are plenty of other Christmas markets scattered around the city for you to enjoy this December?

For those who like a good view, there’s Southbank’s Wintertime; take in some of London’s most famous landmarks (including Big Ben and the London Eye), as well as the twinkling lights and bustling market stalls.

Clapham Common’s Winterville, Christmas in Leicester Square and Kingston Christmas Market are amongst some of the other festive spots well worth a visit this winter.

Travel in time, Yuletide style

Head over to Hampton Court Palace for your chance to experience Christmas with a Tudor twist. Running until 7 January, Christmas at Court will feature live performances, carol singing and ice skating. For those with a crafty side, there are candle decorating workshops on 16 and 17 December.

On 17 December, Kensington Palace are hosting a day of Victorian themed activities. Create your own Victorian style tree decorations, and take a close look at the toys Victorian children would have received as gifts.

Catch a Christmas carol concert

Candlelit carol concerts will be taking place across the city this Christmas, and it would be hard to find a more magical way to spend an evening in the build-up to the big day.

The Royal Albert Hall is always a good place to start! The London Concert Orchestra will be performing there from 16 to 23 December, for a special Christmas Carol Singalong.

Other places perfect to attend a concert by candlelight are Union Chapel in Canonbury on 17 December and St Martin-in-the-Fields on 23 December.

Settle under the stars on a rooftop bar

Ok, so you might not think it’s the best weather to go hanging around on a rooftop bar, but when you see how cosy they can be, you will definitely change your mind.

Decked out with dark woods, Pergola Paddington is fully heated and provides blankets, with a choice of delicious street food to warm you up, too.

Cheese lovers can’t afford to miss Oxford Street’s pop-up, Woody Bear – their menu includes indulgent cheese toasties, baked Jura cheese and raclette.

Get your skates on

Keep fit the Christmas way! Every year, ice rinks pop up all around the city over the festive period. Whether you're a pro or a complete novice, it's great fun to wrap up warm and spend an hour two testing your skills.

All the old favourites have returned this year, from Somerset House and the Natural History Museum to Tower of London and Alexandra Palace.

For something a little different, why not try Skylight at the Tobacco Dock? London's first rooftop ice rink offers amazing views over the City of London and some delicious food to enjoy after you've worked up an appetite on the ice.
