Do you want to learn about the world of technology or work with computers, but you’re not sure if you qualify for university study?

Our BSc (Hons) Computing Degree is available as a four-year course with an Integrated Foundation Year. Whether it’s been a while since you last studied, or you feel you didn’t make the grade in previous academic pursuits, the foundation year will set you up with the required skills and knowledge needed to take on a full Undergraduate Degree in Computing.

Over the duration of the course you will learn to design, develop and review a range of new and sophisticated frameworks in computer technologies, preparing you for the modern workplace.
Modules include programming in a range of languages, website design, software engineering, database implementation and more. 

Arden University offer this Foundation Degree course through our Blended Learning programme, meaning you can attend lectures at one of our study centres in London, Manchester or Birmingham for two days each week, and take advantage of the flexibility of our online learning via iLearn.

When can I study?

Requiring 8 hours of classes a week at your chosen UK study centre, courses are scheduled as follows: 

  • Weekdays*: 2 days per week, 4 hours per day (either 9.00–13.00 or 13.30-17.30)
  • Evenings**: 2 evenings per week 17.30–21.30
  • Weekends**: Saturdays

In addition to the 8 hours of face-to-face teaching each week, you will have an additional 12 hours of online tuition and 13.5 hours of recommended self-guided study time. This is perfect if you want more guided learning, but need the flexibility to study around work, family or other commitments.

We use a wide range of assessment methods at Arden to give you the opportunity to demonstrate a wide range of strengths, these could include: a Portfolio, an Exam, Design Specification tasks, Case Study assessments, Business Plans.

To support your development and ensure you are on the right track with your Blended Learning studies we will provide you with tutor feedback on every assessment you submit. If required, your tutor may be able to give you suggestions for improvement and help you understand how to apply your newly acquired skills into real life settings.

Candidates for our Blended Learning BA (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year are required to submit a personal statement (of between 350-550 words) or interview demonstrating an ability to study the programme at Arden University, taking into account:

  • Your motivation for undertaking the programme
  • Relevant work experience
  • Prior qualifications
  • References

If your previous study was not in English, you will also need to have IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (no less than 5.5 in any element).
