## **What do you really need to Study Online with Arden?**

If you’re new to **Online Distance Learning**, enrolling onto an online course can feel like a step into the unknown!

You're bound to have lots of questions and be wondering whether you'll suddenly find yourself with a long list of things to buy for your course.

If you are serious about studying with Arden and want to know exactly what you need to be able to **study completely online** and achieve the qualification you desire - whether it be study materials, technology, facilities or a suitable place to study - we're here to help

The truth of the matter is, there isn’t an endless list of things you need to have to be able to study online with Arden University – every potential student is different!

You might be surprised to learn it isn't only material things you will need to gain your qualification - studying in your own time requires the right attitude and discipline too.

As a rough guide, take a look below at what we at Arden University consider to be the **4 most important things** that will make your study time a little easier and help you reach your end goal.

### **1) A device with an internet connection**

Whether you own a PC, a laptop or a tablet, your online learning experience will be dependent on your device. Once you’re **connected to the internet**, you will have access to our study portal, iLearn - this is your virtual classroom.

When logged in to **ilearn**, you can access all the tools and resources you need to study your chosen course online. From study materials and schedules, to careers support and chat forums. There’s no needs to buy books and other traditional study materials. Instead, everything you could possibly need to succeed in your studies can be found conveniently in one place.

### **2) A place you can concentrate**

Different methods of learning suit different people. This can also apply to study location. The beauty of online learning is that you can study wherever you please.

Do you feel most comfortable at home on the sofa, or in the spare room you’ve transformed into an office? Perhaps you like to visit the library to put yourself in the right frame of mind, or perhaps you prefer the background noise of a coffee shop to inspire your studying. Wherever it is that you feel you learn best, you must have a place the presents **minimal interruptions** and can keep you on track.

### **3) Self-motivation**

With no physical classes to attend, you must feel confident that you are able to keep on top of your workload. To do that, you need **self-motivation and self-discipline**. As with regular, on-campus learning, online courses have deadlines that must be met. Good time management plays a big role in helping you meet those deadlines.

Successful online learning largely relies on you being in the right frame of mind to digest the information you’re being given. If you’re planning to study at home, it’s essential that you’re able to adopt that mindset, despite being in an environment much more relaxed than a classroom.

### **4) In some cases, a qualification**

There are instances where you may require a qualification to enrol onto an online programme. At Arden University, we believe that everyone should have access to the education they deserve, so we keep our entry requirements as flexible as possible.

For those who are currently lacking in any formal qualifications, many of our courses take **relevant work experience** into account when you apply to study with us.

Do I need a computer?

You will need to be online for all of our courses, and there are specific software requirements for some of them. You can connect to [ilearn](https://arden.ac.uk/studying-with-us/distance-learning/learning-experience/your-virtual-classroom) through many different devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, or your local library may have resources you can use.
