Arden academic publishes new book 'How to Get Ahead in HR'

Dr Kay Maddox-Daines, Head of the School of People and Culture at Arden University, has recently published a new book offering guidance and advice for people looking to advance a career in human resources

How to Get Ahead in HR, published by The London Publishing Partnership, is designed to help people looking to begin their HR careers, as well as those already working in the sector and looking to progress.

“Over the course of my career I have worked in people management as a consultant, manager and educator,” said Kay. “During this period there is one question that I have been asked more than any other, “how do I get a job in HR”. I scanned the resources available so that I could signpost students to a text that would provide a detailed, comprehensive response but there was no one book that provided answers to support diverse individual backgrounds. No single text that would provide insights into how to get qualified, what level to get qualified at, international people careers, how to get work experience in the profession, different roles and how to progress. So, I decided to write one! This book seeks to answer all those questions relating how to get a job and prepare for a career in the HR profession.”

Using a variety of examples, reflective activities, and skills-based exercises, How to Get Ahead in HR offers the tools to help individuals maximize their potential. Each chapter provides a selection of case study examples and action point lists, while also introducing the field’s main professional bodies and explaining the available options for gaining professional qualifications.
