Student life in Berlin

Berlin is a vibrant city where you can comfortably settle in and enjoy a high standard of living. Students enjoy studying in Berlin due to its multicultural atmosphere and the wide range of opportunities available to overseas visitors.

There are famous landmarks to visit like Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, East Side Gallery, Berliner Fernsehturm, and so much more. You can also go clubbing in one of the city’s many famous night spots, enjoy coffee in a local café, and even catch a show at a local theatre or opera.

It’s not hard for students to find affordable housing, inexpensive recreational activities, and cheap food. Students can also easily share accommodations with others to share rent costs. For groceries, supermarkets like Aldi, Lidl, and Netto offer affordable groceries, and you can also enjoy a good meal in Berlin for 10 EUR or less in the cheaper, yet no less tasty, restaurants. 
 

Work in Germany while you study

As an international student living in Germany you’ll be able to work part-time for up to 20 hours a week, or 120 full days per year. The flexible nature of our course scheduling here at Arden University Berlin will leave you with plenty of opportunity to earn a living while you study.

There are a wide range of jobs available to students, which gives you the chance to gain valuable work experience over the duration of your course. Many international students studying in Germany  secure roles working as academic assistants, library assistants, production assistants, as well as in a variety of positions in the hospitality and retail sectors. Taking up online jobs is also becoming a convenient option for many international students.

The amount you can earn as a working student in Germany largely depends on your position, place of work, and your previous academic and professional experience. Becoming proficient in the German language will help you access higher paying jobs as an international student.

After receiving your degree in Germany, you can apply for an 18 month extension of your residence permit to enable you to find a job that qualifies you for a longer term work permit.
 

Applying for your visa to study in Germany

There are five steps to getting your visa.

1. If you meet the entry requirements for your chosen course and all the required documents have been submitted, you will get an acceptance letter from Arden University Berlin confirming your place on the course.
2. You should then contact the German embassy or consulate in your home country to find out how the visa application process works, including which documents they will require.
3. You will be called in for an interview at the embassy to give some background information about who you are and your reasons for travelling to Germany.
4. Your visa confirmation will take, on average, 2-3 months depending on the country you live in.
5. You will then receive your Student Visa, ready to start your studies with us in Berlin!
