Three Arden academics have been selected as members of The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) advisory groups for the Subject Benchmark Statements review.
Professor Georgina Harris (Engineering) and Dr Syed A Tarek (Business) join these specialist advisory groups, comprising members of the academic community, employers, professional, statutory and regulatory bodies (PSRBs), and students, alongside Dr Gail Steptoe-Warren, who was selected as Deputy Chair for the Psychology review in November.
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) is an independent charity, working towards maintaining standards within higher education, while Subject Benchmark Statements describe the nature of study and the academic standards expected of graduates in specific subject areas.
Through reviewing these statements, the advisory groups will look to evaluate what graduates might reasonably be expected to know, do, and understand at the end of their studies. These findings are subsequently used as reference points in the design, delivery, and review of academic programmes.
QAA is reviewing the following subjects in 2022:
• Anthropology
• Biomedical Sciences
• Biosciences
• Business and Management (Group includes Dr Syed A Tarek)
• Economics
• Engineering (Group includes Professor Georgina Harris)
• English
• Languages, Cultures and Societies
• Law
• Linguistics
• Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research
• Politics and International Relations
• Psychology (Group includes Dr Gail Steptoe-Warren)
You can find out more about the Subject Benchmark Statements on the QAA’s website, and see the full list of Advisory Group members here.
