Wellbeing services; disability, mental health, wellbeing and financial support at Arden

Wellbeing Services at Arden University

Welcome to Wellbeing Services at Arden University. We’re here to support you during your time with us. The support we provide covers (a) disability and accessibility, (b) mental health and wellbeing, and (c) financial support.

Disability and Accessibility

If you’re a student who has a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition, or specific learning difference (SpLD) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or ADHD, there is support we can arrange for you during your studies at Arden. This may include arranging reasonable adjustments such as extra time in exams, extensions on coursework as well as arranging a free screening if you suspect you may have a Specific Learning Difference (SpLD).

We can also help you to access Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), if you’re eligible. DSA can provide you with a huge amount of support during your studies including hardware, software and support such as study skills tutoring and specialist mentoring while you study. You can find out more about DSA and how to apply here. If you are an apprenticeship student, you are not eligible for DSA but may be eligible for Access to Work via your employer. To see how to apply and to check if you are eligible, please visit www.gov.uk/access-to-work. We would also encourage you to get in touch with our team to find our what support may be available to you.

DSA Needs Assessors can find out more information here.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Your wellbeing is our priority at Arden. If you find you are struggling to stay well or experiencing challenges with your mental health, our Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisers are here to support you. We can provide wellbeing support and arrange appropriate reasonable adjustments for you. We can also refer you for time-limited counselling, if appropriate, and support you to refer to external services that could provide more specialist support.

Financial Support

If you find yourself in hardship while you’re studying with us, we may be able to provide you with a small grant. Financial support is mostly means-tested and students will need to provide bank statements to support their applications. You can find out more about the type of support we may be able to provide once you’re an enrolled student.

If you feel as though this support would be helpful to you, we would encourage you to contact us as soon as you’ve decided to study at Arden (even if this is before you’ve enrolled), to give us enough time to set up support for you. Arranging Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) support can take around 12 weeks to organise, so please contact us at your earliest opportunity and our advisers will work with you to arrange the support you need. To begin the journey please email us at wellbeing@arden.ac.uk.
