Academic culture and expectations

Studying at a UK university may feel different from what you are used to. UK higher education places a strong emphasis on independent learning, so you should expect to spend time outside of class reading, researching, and preparing assignments.

Attendance is monitored and is also a requirement of your visa, so it’s important to attend all scheduled teaching sessions.

If you need support, help is available throughout your studies. You can use the Learning Success Hub for guidance on academic writing, referencing, and one-to-one academic support.

The Learning Success Hub

The Learning Success Hub supports you throughout your academic journey with a wide range of tutoring, workshops, and study resources designed to help you succeed.

Study skills and academic integrity

Developing strong academic writing skills and understanding academic integrity are essential for completing your assessments successfully. At Arden University, we recognise that these skills may be new to you and that you may need guidance as you develop them.

The Academic Skills Team offers ongoing support through workshops and one-to-one appointments, available both online and on campus. Sessions are offered during evenings and weekends to fit around your schedule.

Specialist workshops include:

  • Understanding academic integrity
  • Referencing
  • Using AI for academic purposes
  • AI for research

Additional workshops and resources are available through the Help pages on the Learning Success Hub.

Milestones

All new students must complete Milestones within the first two weeks of teaching before their registration can be confirmed. These activities are designed to set you up for success and help Arden provide the right support during your studies.

International students have different Milestones requirements to UK students and distance learners. These will be explained during a dedicated session for international students as part of your Milestones orientation.
