Graduation Stories: Mohammed

Mohammed

As part of our graduation ceremonies at the end of 2023, we caught up with a number of our incredible students, reflecting some of Arden University’s high achievers.

Mohammed was one of our blended learning students, enjoying the hybrid experience of studying online at his convenience and also attending our Birmingham study centre.

Like many of our students, he’d been busy throughout his Arden journey – studying for a Business degree with foundation year, whilst looking after children and working full time.

Find out more about his story below.

Hi Mohammed, congratulations on graduating – what did you think of your course?

I thought it was very easy in the end! I did five years with Arden University at the Birmingham campus.

Everything was so easy to manage because it was so flexible. I've got two kids, so I had to work around them.

During the COVID times, we studied for a lot of the blended learning aspects online. But it's just what happened during COVID.

What sort of things did you kind of learn about for your degree?

Basically, it was how to run a business and everything around that. But, it's not just purely the business side, you learn everything around it.

So, you're learning, in depth, about all these other different subjects and things like leadership and people skills.

Then, at the end, you can put them all together and it's all related back to business.

What do you want to do now that you've got your degree?

I might take a little bit of a rest, and then think about what next.

At the moment, I've got my mind in a couple of places, so I'm just going to take my time until I know exactly where to go.

As a father, how did you find balancing your family responsibilities with your work and studies?

So, I work full time and have two kids who are both in the early years of school. But managing both of those things is something I’ve been able to do for five years. That was something I was nervous about at first, because you don’t want anything to suffer.

But you just learn to live with it very quickly really, and you just learn to work around it.

Arden University are great as well. They listen to what you have to say and they make sure you're happy as well at the same time.

What was your favourite aspect of your journey with us?

Probably all the people that I’ve met all the way through it to be fair. I’ve met a lot of students at lectures and classes from different countries and I’ve been able to get to know a few the lecturers very well and still keep in contact with them.

How does it feel to be here graduating today, at the end your five year journey with us?

I feel nervous and excited at the same time. I don't know what to feel to be honest!

I didn't realise how fast five years can go.

Now that I’ve come to the end of it, I can't believe five years has gone.

And how does it feel to be here celebrating with your family in attendance?

Something like this is fantastic to be here in a very nice venue.

I wasn't expecting it, but it's what comes after very hard work.
