Radical and critical alternatives in psychology

Join Arden University’s Psychology Module Leader, Mvikeli Ncube, will discuss critical alternatives in psychology. The broader aim is to provoke students and fellow academics to think about limitations of mainstream research in the discipline and consider critical alternatives.

Psychology Module leader, Mvikeli Ncube talk will discuss critical alternatives in psychology that motivated and influenced his research before and post PhD. He will discuss how his conception of all varieties of psychology as culturally and historically constructed, impacted on, first his undergraduate dissertation, then his PhD, and subsequently all the publications he has produced. All of this has confirmed or resisted assumption in mainstream models. Mvikeli's talk will discuss critical alternatives in psychology that motivated and influenced his research before and post PhD. He will discuss how his conception of all varieties of psychology as culturally historically constructed, impacted on, first his undergraduate dissertation, then his PhD, all publications he has produced so far and his current projects confirming or resisting ideological assumptions in mainstream models.

An introduction to Mvikeli Ncube:

Arden University Mvikeli Ncube

Dr Mvikeli Ncube is a Chartered Social Psychologist. He received his PhD from the University of East London. His expertise, research and teaching interests are in: Social Psychology, Social Constructionism, Qualitative Research Methods, Cultural & Media Psychology and Conceptual & Historical Issues in Psychology. Ncube has taught on a number of different modules across both BSc and MSc degree psychology courses. He is currently the module leader for level 5 Applied Social and Developmental psychology. Ncube’s scholarly work is primarily concerned with interpersonal relationships and social identity. In the past, he has published research on cultural psychology and Social Identity.  His recent book is on ‘The Social Construction and Performance of Identity in Culture and Society’ London: Routledge.
