To help learners who are speakers of English as an additional language improve their language skills, Arden University is launching The Fundamentals of Academic English (FOAE) course in the UK.
Following a successful pilot in Berlin, the programme will be rolled out to new starters gradually, beginning with the Tower Hill and Birmingham study centres in May 2023. By the end of 2023 this will be available to all Arden students for whom English is an additional language.
The seven-week programme, designed to help students improve their fluency, grammar, academic writing, and communication skills in academic English, will be delivered online by experienced lecturers from the English Language Hub.
‘We are thrilled to be launching the Fundamentals of Academic English programme,’ said Duncan Ogilvie, Interim Head of the English Language Hub.
‘We recognise that studying in a second language can be difficult, and even those students who feel confident communicating in English can find studying an academic programme in English to be a challenge. The course has been carefully designed to help students feel confident and comfortable communicating in English in an academic setting, in order to equip them with the skills they need to succeed in their studies. We believe this will be an invaluable resource for our learners, and are looking forward to seeing the positive impact this programme will have on their academic journeys and beyond.’
The course will be timetabled from week two to week eight of a student’s first study block, with two hours per week allocated for each class.
