School of Investigation, Security and Defence launching new foundation years courses

Arden University’s School of Investigation, Security and Defence is set to launch two new foundation years courses.

These two courses, Forensic and Criminal Investigation with Foundation Year and Policing and Criminal Investigation with Foundation Year have been designed for students with a keen interest in pursuing a career in criminal investigation, but who feel in need of some extra support to prepare for the rigours of academic study before embarking on their undergraduate degree programme.

Our BSc (Hons) Policing and Criminal Investigation with Foundation Year looks to equip students with the skills they need to pursue a degree successfully, before immersing them in the entire criminal investigative process.

After building study skills, the courses will take learners on an immersive journey through the entire investigative process – gaining practical insight into the natural progression of criminal investigations, the interlinked areas of policing and forensics, and how various investigative personnel work together to achieve a common goal. The course is delivered by experienced practitioners, with guest lectures and webinars providing additional insight into real practises in today’s field.

These courses also stand out for their use of our immersive virtual crime world, allowing learners to place themselves in real-world scenarios and prepare themselves for work in the field. Students can take on a range of roles to navigate different environments such as crime scenes, the police custody suite, the major incident room, police cells, the courtroom, and the forensics lab.

A great option for learners who have been out of education for a while, alongside subject knowledge, foundation year entry degrees give students the opportunity to develop and refine the basic skills needed for higher level study covering areas such as academic reading and writing, numeracy, IT, research, presentation, and teamwork.

‘We’re very excited to be launching these new foundation year courses,’ said Rachel Strzelecki, Head of the School of Policing at Arden University.

'Following the incredible success and enrolment figures of our Forensic and Criminal Investigation and Policing and Criminal Investigation degrees we’re delighted to be able to offer our courses with increased access, allowing anyone wanting to pursue a career in the industry the chance to. Coupling cutting edge technology with expert insight, these courses offer a comprehensive introduction to criminal investigation.’

The first intakes for these new courses will be October 2023.
