As Black Friday approaches we are so consumed with the search for a new TV that we forget that WE are our most valuable asset. Why not invest in yourself?
The Three S’s: sales, savings and special offers are on our minds as ‘Black Friday’ and 'Cyber Monday’ approach. We are so consumed with the search for a new smart TV or a hairdryer that we forget that we are our most valuable asset - so why choose to invest in a new laptop rather than yourself?
Human capital is defined as ‘the stock of knowledge, habits, social and personality attributes, including creativity, embodied in the ability to perform labour so as to produce economic value.’
If someone like Bill Gates suddenly lost all his assets, could he walk into an interview room of any company in the world, offer his services and still win a job making him a six figure salary a year? Probably, and that’s all thanks to his human capital – not how many things he has purchased.
So how can you increase your capital? The answer is simple and it shouldn’t come as a surprise: education is a great long-term investment in you. A newly-acquired qualification can lead to higher earnings, as proven by many of our students:
I got the courage to start my own business and put into practice what I’d learnt on my course. I haven’t looked back. Two years down the line, my company’s just turned over £310,000, and should do more than £500,000 this year. Without Arden University, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I was able to impress middle and senior management in my company with my knowledge of different management models. I got a promotion and a pay rise as a result.
“The degree enabled me to get a promotion to manager within our company and also a higher annual bonus.”
"I started the Health and Social Care (Hons) degree a little over a year ago…So here I am now, earning 10,000 pounds a year more than I was 3 months ago. I am now a Regional Trainer."
You can check your potential earnings today; simply use our qualification calculator.
Investing in yourself will last you a lifetime and with our Distance Learning degrees, you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home.
Or you could explore Blended Learning, where you can complete a full three-year degree, with just 2 days' face-to-face commitment per week. Or study for your MBA or Masters with just one evening every 2 weeks in a classroom.
So don’t spend Black Friday or Cyber Monday hunting for the latest gadgets, invest in yourself instead.
