The Three S’s: sales, savings and special offers are on our minds as ‘Black Friday’ and 'Cyber Monday’ approach. We are so consumed with the search for a new smart TV or a hairdryer that we forget that we are our most valuable asset - so why choose to invest in a new laptop rather than yourself?
Human capital is defined as ‘the stock of knowledge, habits, social and personality attributes, including creativity, embodied in the ability to perform labour so as to produce economic value.’
If someone like Bill Gates suddenly lost all his assets, could he walk into an interview room of any company in the world, offer his services and still win a job making him a six figure salary a year? Probably, and that’s all thanks to his human capital – not how many things he has purchased.
Increase your own capital
So how can you increase your capital? The answer is simple and it shouldn’t come as a surprise: education is a great long-term investment in you. A newly-acquired qualification can lead to higher earnings, as proven by many of our students:
