Course details and modules

Build your health and care skills with a 2-year foundation degree

This Level 5 FdSc course offers a solid grounding in essential skills needed for early career progression in the health and social care sector. You’ll focus on developing core management, leadership skills and critical thinking skills tailored specifically for the health and social care sector—preparing you to step confidently into early managerial roles.

Flexible study with full support

Delivered full-time via blended learning, the course gives you the flexibility to balance your studies with other commitments. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a recognised qualification but aren’t ready to commit to a full 3-year degree right away.

Pathway to a full degree

After completing your FdSc, you’ll have the opportunity to top-up your qualification to a Level 6 degree, opening up even more advanced roles in health and care management.

Cynthia Blow

I chose online learning because I do not currently have the capacity to attend classes as my days are full with running my household, my elderly parents’ household and tending to the needs of my 3-year-old. Online studying has been extremely helpful because it provides the flexibility I need in order to study at random times during the day or night.

Full-time blended learning

How does it work?

Our blended learning model combines the structure of in-person teaching with the flexibility of online learning. You’ll attend eight hours of timetabled classes in person one day per week at your chosen Arden campus—designed to free up the rest of your week for work or other responsibilities.

You’ll also engage in around 25 hours of independent study each week via iLearn, our virtual learning environment. iLearn gives you access to all the resources you need, including recorded lectures, learning materials, and our Library Portal—an extensive digital library with thousands of journals, eBooks, and academic databases.

Blended learning is the best option for students who prefer the structure of regular face to face classes with their tutor and fellow classmates, and is particularly suited to students who live within commuting or driving distance of one of our UK campuses.

If you're a student from England who is enrolling on a blended learning course with Arden (based in one of our UK campuses) then you can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan to help pay for your living expenses. You can find more information on our fees and funding page. If you're a student from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland you can find information about obtaining a student loan to cover your costs from your student finance body.

This course is also available to study full-time at our campus in Berlin, Germany, where you’ll have the opportunity to experience life as an international student in the heart of one of Europe’s most dynamic and historic cities.
