Course Overview

Arden’s MSc Global Health Management will equip you with the technical, managerial and leadership skills needed to work in health management from a global perspective. Examining today’s most pressing healthcare management issues which transcend national boundaries, the course places emphasis on providing you with the latest skills in digital literacy and data analysis at use in global health management in the prevention of disease in global populations and the promotion of health and health equity among nations. 

Contemporary in its structure and with a delivery method that you’ll find highly flexible, the course has been developed in close collaboration with leading public health employers and industry advisory groups. You’ll be exposed to a number of innovative teaching approaches and assessment methods which have been brought together to support the development of your knowledge and abilities in global health management, helping you graduate with the specialised skills necessary for a successful career in the global health sector. 

This global health management master’s course also prepares you for the digital and data driven world of modern global health management. You’ll also explore and become proficient in a wide range of digital technologies such as SPSS, NVIVO, Stata, Gorilla, and more. This gives you the opportunity to learn about virtual simulations and technologies used to predict, model, and plan for future infectious and non-infectious disease outbreaks on a global scale, as well as how to respond to real life challenges that may arise in your future career as a global healthcare manager or leader.

The aim of the assessments you will undertake is to encourage you to confidently apply the knowledge and skills gained in each module in the context of a ‘real world’ global health practice scenario. The following assessment types are used at various stages of the course:

How does it work?

Our online students study their degree through ilearn, Arden’s university campus in the cloud.  ilearn provides everything you need to study at University. It offers an integrated virtual learning experience, including your virtual classroom, lecture theatre, and access to our Library Portal. The portal includes an extensive digital library including thousands of journal titles, eBooks, and academic and industry databases which you can use to research your assignments and projects. All of these materials are provided to you free of charge, and contain all the research information you’ll need to complete your degree with us. ilearn is also integrated with Zoom, making it easier to chat with your course tutor during your scheduled seminar sessions. You can even integrate our study materials into your Kindle, making it possible to study wherever you have your Kindle handy.

The learning methods employed on our MSc Global Health Management also make use of real-world case studies, practice learning, webinars, the latest software applications being put to use in the global health management sector, and industry guest speakers.
 
Studying online with Arden University doesn’t mean studying alone. Entry requirements

At Arden University we consider applications on a case by case basis. If you have significant work experience, have qualifications you have gained elsewhere, or a degree or qualification that isn't a clear pathway to this degree - we are more than happy to discuss your application.

What you need to study with us

Our aim is to make learning as accessible as possible by ensuring that you can study in a flexible and convenient way. That's why we keep our requirements simple. All you need is a laptop or desktop PC (we recommend one running the latest version of Windows), and a good internet connection. Through ilearn, our online university campus in the cloud, you'll be able to access your course calendar, support services, learning materials, and our online library containing thousands of ebooks, as well as tools for creating assignments, keeping notes, and collaborating with other students on your course.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the MSc Global Health Management, we need to see that you have:

Standard entry:

  • A bachelor's degree of equivalent at (2:2) that is related to the field of clinical health, allied health sciences, health studies, health psychology or a relevant scientific discipline such as biomedical sciences or nutrition.
  • A maths qualification or equivalent to at least Grade C at GCSE.

Non-standard entry:

  • We also consider applications from candidates who lack formal qualifications but possess work experience that is relevant to clinical health, allied health science and health studies.
  • In the absence of a maths qualification or equivalent, professional work experience that relates to statistical modelling and/or analysis, data entry and/or mathematical modelling/budgeting would be considered

English proficiency

  • IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element); or TOEFL iBT 90; or equivalent
  • Alternatively, evidence you have previously studied in English, such as a letter to show that the Medium of Instruction was in English, can be accepted.

We also offer an internal English test for applicants who are unable to provide the above evidence of English proficiency. More information can be found here.

Funding and Scholarships

The Arden University Postgraduate Merit Scholarship offers UK Online Learning students with a 2.1 undergraduate degree or higher £2,000 off our postgraduate tuition fees. You can also apply for up to £12,167 funding from Student Finance England fund your studies.

Dr Stephanie West

Stephanie West joined Arden University in November 2020 as Head of the School of Health and Care Management. In addition to her wealth of healthcare industry experience, Stephanie has held a number of Senior Academic and Leadership positions in Health, Social Care and Applied Science faculties at a variety of universities across the UK. Stephanie will provide leadership to the School of Healthcare Management, ensuring that it delivers high quality academic provision and student satisfaction across all courses.

This MSc Global Health Management programme will prepare you for a career in the global health management sector by giving you a broad understanding of contemporary issues at stake in current practice, with a particular focus on the latest digital and analytical skills sought at use in the sector.

  • Develop an understanding of global health management and the impact of policy directives on universal health coverage and global efforts to control and manage communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Gain an appreciation of emerging concepts, frameworks, issues, and challenges in global health practice and how these are impacted by political, economic, social-cultural and environmental factors situated in local, national, and transnational experiences of populations. 
  • Develop a holistic understanding of key concepts, trends, and determinants of global public health that have an impact on local, national, and international health priorities.
  • Be exposed to the often complex and interwoven socio-demographic factors that drive health disparities between countries, regions, populations, and sub-populations.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the analytical skills required to evaluate key global health policy directives that set the agenda for universal health outcomes and initiatives to control and manage communicable and non-communicable diseases. 
  • Appreciate the nature and impact of multi-sectoral global collaborations in addressing pandemics and global health challenges that impact on the social, economic, and environmental landscape of national and transnational populations.
  • Develop the requisite analytical knowledge and skills for interpreting global public health datasets and use appropriate software to apply these in supporting context-specific health interventions.

This course awards a CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Man & Leadership Practice and offers CMI Foundation Chartered Manager Status *

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) promotes excellence in UK management and leadership. As the CMI possesses a Royal Charter, they are the only organisation in the UK that can award Chartered Manager status to their members – the gold standard in management. With 140,000 members, the institute aims to boost career development across the management sector and connect like-minded professionals.

As an Arden student, you’ll have free CMI Membership throughout your studies, giving you access to a range of additional resources including a mentoring service and invitations to networking events both online and offline. 

Upon completion of this CMI-accredited course, you will be awarded CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Man & Leadership Practice and gain CMI Foundation Chartered Manager Status. This recognises you have the skills needed to be an effective manager, helping you stand out from the competition and start your management career journey - with a CMI qualification and a clear pathway to full Chartered Manager status.

*Upon completion of your course, the CMI award and level of chartered status awarded will depend on your level and length of study, whether you entered your course with Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) or if any compensation is applied on your modules throughout the duration of study. Validation of academic courses in public health by the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), an independent and international non-profit organisation, ensures that curriculum and syllabus content adheres to European standards for contemporary courses, and aligns with the basic structure and core content required from programmes in the field.

The APHEA represents the five leading associations of public health in the European Region. Institute of Health & Social Care Management (IHSCM)

This course is endorsed by the Institute of Health & Social Care Management (IHSCM), whose aim is to create a supportive professional body that is relevant in its activities and modern in its approach and who holds sector leaders in the NHS, social care, third sector and private healthcare amongst its members. The IHSCM works with Arden University to contribute to curriculum development and delivery.
